The Açaí berry is grown on a palm tree in the Brazilian Amazon Jungle. It's size varies. It is purple, but is slightly larger than a blueberry. It is arguably our planet's greatest super food.
At Brazilian Açaí Bowls we use a sorbet that is made from the frozen pulp of the Açaí berries. There is a reason it must be frozen. The Açaí berry has an amazingly low sugar level and lacks the ability to preserve itself. It perishes just one day after being harvested. That is why you will never see freshly picked Açaí berries being sold on any fruit stand or supermarket. They would never survive the trip! The way we traditionally eat it in Brazil is as a frozen pulp.
